Tenebrae - Palm Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

Ask-the-umc-tenebrae-plain-pixabay-2019

TENEBRAE, a Latin word meaning “darkness” is an ancient Christian Holy Week service dating back to the seventh century in which we accompany Jesus in His last hours. Tenebrae is characterized by readings, the gradual extinguishing of candles and the “strepitus,” meaning “great noise,” representing the earthquake and the confusion which accompanied Christ’s death and burial. As the church grows darker we begin our wait, in patient hope, for His Resurrection.

Come join us at St. Katherine of Siena, 9700 Frankford Ave, Phila., 19114, on April 2, 2023, at 7pm as we enter into Holy Week to walk solemnly with Christ to His Passion, Death and Glorious Resurrection.

Ash Wednesday Schedule

DE51DFA9-B1FE-4040-8EA6-9FB146A468C1

This Wednesday, February 22, Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast and Abstinence from meat. On this day, Christians throughout the world pause to mark their foreheads with Ashes. It is an outward sign of their inner desire to reform their lives. The three hallmarks of Lent are Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. As we begin this holy season of Lent, take a minute to reflect on how you will incorporate these three practices into your daily Lenten journey.

Ashes will be distributed during each of the Masses on Ash Wednesday.

Masses will be celebrated at 6:30 am, 8:00 am, 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
