Important Announcement Regarding Safe Environment Clearances

ClearanceAlthough this school year is starting out under different circumstances, it is still necessary to ensure all parents / guardians who wish to volunteer at school or chaperone their children are up-to-date with their Safe Environment Clearances for when school activities do return to normal.  No one will be allowed to volunteer or chaperone at SKS who is not fully cleared thru the Safe Environment Program.

If you originally submitted your Criminal Checks and Disclosure Statement back in 2015 they are now expired/expiring.  For those submitted in early 2016, they will be expiring in 2021.  Please check your records to see if it is time to renew your PA Criminal Check, PA Child Abuse Check or your two page Disclosure Statement for Volunteers.  If you need to renew, kindly go to the school website, under the PARENT button, scroll down to Volunteer Information, click open and print out the CHECKLIST for instructions and websites to go to to renew your criminal checks.  Also print out your Disclosure Statement for Volunteers, read, sign and have another adult witness your signature.  Place all renewed documents in an envelope marked “Safe Environment-Carmela” and drop it in the mail slot in the Rectory’s front door.  Keep copies of all documents for your own records.

Anyone not renewing the above three clearances will not be allowed to volunteer or chaperone at SKS.

For new SKS student parents, you will need to complete the above criminal checks and statement, along with the mandatory Archdiocesan Training as listed on the above mentioned CHECKLIST.

If you need further assistance, please call Carmela, in the Rectory, 215-637-7548, ext 224.  This is a shared extension.

Your assistance in this very important matter is greatly appreciated.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul 8th Annual Friends of the Poor Walk

The Society of  St. Vincent de Paul

Saturday, September 19, 2020

We are seeking your support for this year’s  Friends of the Poor® Walk sponsored by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.   Your help is especially important during this health and economic crisis.

This year, for health reasons, St. Vincent de Paul members will be walking for you! Wearing masks and keeping social distance, we will walk a two-mile course starting at St. Katherine of Siena church, through Fluehr Park, then return to our starting point.  Although you cannot walk with us, we would be grateful for your spiritual and financial support.

If you would like to contribute to our Walk, please place your donation in an envelope and drop in the regular Saturday/Sunday collection basket beginning this weekend through September 20, 2020.

Label the envelope “Friends of the Poor Walk” and include your name and address so we can acknowledge your generosity.

Make checks payable to “Society of St. Vincent de Paul.”   You may also make donations online at www.fopwalk.org for St. Katherine of Siena.

The Reverend Ronald J. Ferrier

Father Ferrier was born in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1940 to Jeremiah and Margaret (Fulginiti). He attended St. Matthew’s Parochial School and St. Matthew’s High School both in Conshohocken. He entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 1958 and on May 18, 1968 was ordained to the Priesthood by John Cardinal Krol.

After one year as the Assistant Pastor of St. Isidore Parish in Quakertown, PA Father began a 40 year teaching career at Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia where he taught Physical Science and Latin. While teaching, Father earned a M.S. degree from Villanova University. During his time at CD, Father resided in three different assignments: six years at Visitation Parish, Philadelphia seven years in Our Lady of Consolation in Tacony and 27 years as Chaplain to the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in their Provincial House in Torresdale.

Upon leaving Dougherty Father was assigned as the Parochial Vicar at St. Katherine of Siena.

In addition to his love of celebrating Mass and administering the Sacraments, Father had a “green thumb” which continues to be evidenced on the parish campus. Carefully choosing the right plants for the right spots Father transformed the parish grounds so much so that in 2014 the parish was awarded the “Green Space Award” from the Horticultural Society of the State of PA.

May his gentle soul rest in peace!
