Tenebrae - Palm Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

Ask-the-umc-tenebrae-plain-pixabay-2019

TENEBRAE, a Latin word meaning “darkness” is an ancient Christian Holy Week service dating back to the seventh century in which we accompany Jesus in His last hours. Tenebrae is characterized by readings, the gradual extinguishing of candles and the “strepitus,” meaning “great noise,” representing the earthquake and the confusion which accompanied Christ’s death and burial. As the church grows darker we begin our wait, in patient hope, for His Resurrection.

Come join us at St. Katherine of Siena, 9700 Frankford Ave, Phila., 19114, on April 10 th , at 7pm as we enter into Holy Week to walk solemnly with Christ to His Passion, Death and Glorious Resurrection.

"You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church"

"You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church."

These familiar words of Jesus to St. Peter have been used down throughout the years as the establishment of St. Peter as the Prince of the Apostles and ultimately the Papacy.

The following clip gives us a clear understanding of the position of Pope Francis as he leads the church today. May God Bless Pope Francis with health, strength and wisdom.
